Plasma TVs

Plasma televisions work by passing an electrical current through capsules of noble gases, causing them to emit light. In turn, the light hits a phosphorescent layer to produce the appropriate images.

The main advantage of this type of television is that they are relatively affordable. Plasma TVs are also capable of producing bright images and, unlike many types of  LCD TVs, fast images do not blur. In addition, due to their composition, this type of display is capable of producing richer blacks which can greatly improve image quality.

Unfortunately, there are a couple of drawbacks associated with plasma televisions. As this type of television has a glass screen, it can be difficult to see the screen in a well-lit room due to reflections. Plasma television screens a liable to image burn-in, which is a permanent discolouration due to the same image shown on the screen for a long time, such as a channel logo. In addition, they are not the most energy efficient type of television as they consume high amounts of electricity.

However, in recent years there have been considerable developments in the LED and LCD television industry which has led to many television manufacturers ceasing to produce further plasma TVs.

Panasonic

Despite the fact that many television companies are turning towards LED and LCD devices, Panasonic offer an excellent range of plasma TVs. While Panasonic has been loyal to plasma technology for a long time, it is rumored that they will soon cease to produce new plasma models.
