The Huawei Ascend G6 is one the latest offerings from increasingly popular Chinese technology company. The Huawei Ascend G6 was unveiled at the end of February at the Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona and is set to be the successor of the firm’s successful Ascend P6 which flew of the shelves last year. Huawei’s latest handset is aimed at the increasingly lucrative midrange section of the smartphone market.

Design

Unlike the P6 which was embodied in a brushed aluminium casing, the Ascend G6 features a plastic outer shell. However, despite being made from plastic the device feels solid not hollow which is the problem with a number of plastic smartphones.

Like many other handsets that we have seen announced this year, the Huawei Ascend G6 will to be released in an array of two-tone colour designs, such as white and champagne gold and black with rose-gold accents.

Although a lot of people loved the slimness of the Ascend P6, unfortunately, the G6 is a little chunkier than its predecessor as it clocks in at 7.9mm thick. Nevertheless, the phone is still comfortable to hold and the subtly rubberised rear-panel the phone from sliding out of your hand.

Smartphone Technology

Unfortunately, despite being an Android smartphone, the Huawei Ascend G6 is not running on the most recent version of the ever-popular operating system from Google. Instead, Huawei’s newest smartphone runs on the now slightly dated Android Jellybean 4.2 with Huawei’s Emoticon user interface superimposed on it.

Perhaps one of the biggest surprises with the Huawei Ascend G6 is the 5MP front-facing camera which makes the smartphone more than capable of taking pictures and clear video calls. On the back of the phone there is an 8 megapixel camera which also allows you to record video in HD. There is also a helpful camera app complete with a number of useful features to help you take better photographs.

While the P6 may have had the more premium design, the G6 has the 4G connectivity that its predecessor lacked. This connectivity allows for faster web browsing and mobile data, making it perfect for those who frequently use the internet.

The Huawei Ascend G6 sports a 4.5 inch qHD screen. While the screen-size is a slight downgrade from the P6, the G6 still offers clear visuals. Beneath the surface, the latests offering from Huawei is powered by a quad-core 1.2 GHz processor equipped with a respectable 2000mAh battery, making it a relatively powerful device.

Pricing and Release Date

The Huawei Ascend G6 is set for release in the UK in April. Although there has been no official UK price for the the upcoming smartphone, it is rumoured that the Huawei Ascend G6 will be available to buy for around £200.
