Chromecast 2

Two years on from the creation of the original Chromecast, Google are back with their latest media streamer offering: Chromecast 2. Compatible with iPhones, Android phones, tablets, laptops and Chromebooks, you can stream anything from these devices onto your TV using the device as your remote. Chromecasts work with your existing technology, so just connect it to the HDMI port of your TV, a good Wi-Fi network and your Internet-enabled device to begin casting. You can use it with existing devices, making it a versatile and cost-effective streaming option.

Design
One of the most obvious differences between the Chromecast 2 and the original is the design. They’ve done away with their plain black memory stick-esque design and replaced it with a slick new circular aesthetic available in 3 colours: Lemonade, Black and Coral. As the new shape can hang behind your TV it’s easy to plug in and at 39.1g it won’t overload your TV.

Features
Smart streaming
The invention of the Chromecast means no more hooking up your laptop to the TV via a HDMI cable every time you want to watch something. The new Chromecast has been updated to a dual-band 2.4/5Ghz Wi-Fi antenna, making for slicker and smarter streaming than its predecessor. This improvement means higher resolution, faster loading times and less lag. This makes it perfect for using your smartphone or tablet to watch Netflix on your TV with minimum buffer time.

Fast Play
A cool addition to the original Chromecast is the Fast Play feature. While you watch your favourite TV programme, the next episode starts to buffer. In this way, this clever little feature ensures that whatever’s up next is ready to go when you want it.

Chromecast-compatible apps
Watching TV isn’t your only option with the Chromecast. With access to any Chromecast-compatible app, you can cast a family-friendly quiz game onto the TV, indulge in your favourite sport or Spotify playlist and customise your TV backdrop with photos.

Pricing and Release Date
The Chromecast 2 was released on Tuesday 29th September and this slick little accessory is out for sale right now for £30.
